The New Books Network History of Science podcast channel recently released an interview by Dr. Morteza Hajizadeh of Prof. Al Coppola about his 2016 book “The Theater of Experiment; Staging Natural Philosophy in Eighteenth-Century Britain.”
What with all the talk these days of “citizen science,” as opposed to those activities engaged in by profesionals in formal research facilities, one can be forgiven for not immediately calling to mind a time when almost all science was the purview of amateur experimenters making investigations of the things closest to their daily lives through the use of items they had ready-to-hand.
In the days, months, and – God help us – perhaps even years to come, those of living in the United States are likely to see a rejection of science at the highest levels of government, in some of the most visible media outlets, and amongst not insignificant segments of the citizenry.
