So where was I…?

The rain unrelenting, the expedition departed La Amistad and headed back to Los Quetzales for the evening.

As Los Quetzales is located in the rural town of Guadalupe in the Chiriqui highlands, there are plenty of birds to be found right on the property of the lodge itself. From under the very eaves of one of the lodge buildings (pictured above) I was able to comfortably view and identify:

Common Bush-Tanager, Chlorospingus ophthalmicus

Silver-throated Tanager, Tangara icterocephala

Great Kiskadee, Pitangus sulphuratus

Rufous-collared Sparrow, Zonotrichia capensis

A note about avitourism: when you’re an internationally adventuring bird watcher, you have to be prepared for any and all sorts of accommodations, no matter how Spartan they may be. For instance, the private gazebo-covered jacuzzi on my deck was at least five paces from the front door of my room.

The sacrifices I make for my craft!

Peace and good bird watching.
