Have you ever had a magical bird moment? A brief moment in time while watching a bird when the wall separating the avian and the mammalian species seems inexplicably to become thinner and you feel as though you are able more purely to perceive the spirit of the bird itself? No, I haven’t been spending the day at the Oregon Country Fair listening to the extended version of the Grateful Dead’s Uncle John’s Band and inhaling too much of the, well… “herbal essences” that go along with such activities. I’ve been listening to Frances Wood’s Magical Warbler Moment, the latest installment of BirdNote.
The rest of the essays for the coming week of August 10, 2008 promise to be quite enlightening as well, if indeed somewhat less metaphysical:
Sunday – Magical Warbler Moment by Frances Wood
Monday – How Young Birds Learn Songs by Bob Sundstrom
Tuesday – Chickadees at Dawn by Todd Peterson
Wednesday – The Bonaparte’s Gull Chorus-line by Chris Peterson
Thursday – Common Nighthawk, Uncommon Sound by Bob Sundstrom
Friday – Ospreys and Cell Towers by Frances Wood
Saturday – The Gulls of Summer by Frances Wood
KPLU broadcasts BirdNote to all those within their broadcast signal radius at 8:58 AM on each of the above days. BirdNote is also heard on KOHO, Leavenworth, WA; KTOO, Juneau, AK; KMBH, Harlingen, TX; KWMR, Pt. Reyes, CA; WNPR, Connecticut Public Radio; and WRCJ in Detroit, MI. Peace and good bird watching.
