It's the Day of the Condor here at AOU Portland 2008. Updates on the state of Condor conservation in North America were presented. The news isn't good.

Lead ammunition (bullets, not shot) continues to be a problem as it increases the overall amount of lead in the environment and especially in the Condor's food chain. Added to this are all the small bits of garbage found in Condor habitat, which they unfortunately ingest.

As was the case in the curtailment of the use of lead shot to help improve the problem of lead polution in the waterways of the U.S., an effort even greater than what is presently being apllied to this conservation project is needed; one that will require the addition to the cause of parties not presently active in it.

Moblogging from AOU Portland 2008, peace and good bird watching.
