Following upon his Sunday book review last week, in which he took Prof. Dave Goulson‘s Silent Earth; Averting the Insect Apocalypse as his subject, Mark continues to be “bugged” this week with the disturbing ongoing declines in insect and other invertebrate populations.
His book this week is Vicki Hird‘s new Rebugging the Planet; The Remarkable Things that Insects (and Other Invertebrates) Do – And Why We Need to Love Them More. Mark notes its “less formal but still rigorous tone” that he interprets as likely to be “more appealing to a wider and less already-knowledgeable readership.” (He also praises it for including mention of the organization Wild Justice, the non-profit legal action organization upon the board of which he, Chris Packham, and Dr. Ruth Tingay sit as directors.) Please visit his blog to discover the entirety of his thoughts on Ms. Hird’s book.
Links to Dr. Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are entirely his own.
