Although published in late 2018, a copy of Dave Irons‘ American Birding Association Field Guide to Birds of Oregon reached my desk last week, giving me an opportunity to see how my own home state has been represented in the voluminous American Birding Association Field Guide series published by Scott & Nix.
When it comes to those who know their way around the official list of Oregon’s birds, it’s difficult to think of anyone more well-suited for the task of assembling a field guide to them than Mr. Irons. His work with the Oregon Bird Records Committee (OBRC), as well as his other extensive work on similar projects in Oregon, more than testifies to his knowledge of the region’s birdlife. Thus I am glad to see that he was chosen to be the author of this particular volume. As with all the previous volumes, Brian E. Small‘s clearly identifiable images provide the visual key to the species included.
Once we’re all granted a longer leash to allow for more time farther afield, I look forward to putting this new guidebook through it’s paces.
