Chatting about birdwatching with my friend Miriam who lives in the Vichy area of France, I was reminded that not so long ago a new guidebook arrived from Pelagic Publishing that promises to direct its readers to the best spots in that nation for pursuing this favored ornithological past-time.
Where to Watch Birds in France by Jean-Yves Barnagaud, Nidal Issa, and Sébastien Dalloyau can guide any and all those interested to 312 of the best locations in the country for observing that nation’s birdlife. Nearly 500 maps are included, as well as GPS coordinates of important features at the locations.
From Brittany to the Southern Alps and even the island of Corsica, this book certainly seems to be the book to have along where ever your travels in France may find you. (I write “seems” as I’ve not had the opportunity to put it to the test yet in the field. If anyone would be willing to foot the bill to send me off on a Gallic expedition, I’ll be sure to let you know how effective it is in much greater detail.)
