“This will undoubtedly be one of the wildlife books of the year and it is a cracking good read. You should read it.”

So declares Mark Avery in the very first line of his most recent Sunday Book Review regarding Wilding by Isabella Tree. A rather straight to the point recommendation, to be sure – and given Mark’s significant interest in and experience with the Rewilding movement, one that should certainly be taken to heart.

Of course for those who might like to know a bit more before going out to plonk down the £16.99 for the opportunity to learn the story of the ‘Knepp experiment’, a pioneering rewilding project in West Sussex, Mark does back up his opening declaration with quite a well-written and informative review explaining at length why the expenditure is indeed a worthwhile one.

Links to Mark Avery’s Sunday book reviews appear in The Well-read Naturalist by special arrangement. You can find all of Mark’s past reviews as well as a wide-ranging collection of his other writings on his Standing Up for Nature website. Mark’s opinions regarding the books he reviews are his own.
