For all those who have liked Richard Crossley’s unconventional approach to presenting his subjects in his three previous guides about the birds of eastern North America, of Britain and Ireland, and raptors respectively, it is entirely reasonable to assume that his most recently published fourth guide – The Crossley ID: Waterfowl – will also be received with similar appreciation and enthusiasm.
Co-authored by Paul Baicich and Jessie Barry, this most recent Crossley ID guide is the first to have been published under his own imprint rather than Princeton University Press as the previous three were. However it does continue his central idea of depicting the each species in electronically-created single species collages set against a background image of each species’ most common habitat to simulate the experience of multiple observations of the birds in the field.
