Whenever I am bound for some far-off destination, at least one of the books I stuff into my already over-stuffed bag will be a relevant volume of the Princeton Field Guides or Princeton Pocket Guides series. I make it a point of maintaining an extensive collection of them for just such purposes.
Therefore, you can be sure that when a new one is published, my interest is naturally piqued. Such a piquing recently occurred with the arrival on my desk of Wildlife of Southeast Asia by Susan Myers, the most recent addition to the latter of the above mentioned series from Princeton University Press.
Providing a handy overview of the birds, mammals, reptiles, frogs, and invertebrates one might encounter on a trip to Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and – if relations of it with the rest of the world continue to improve, Myanmar, this new pocket guide promises to be a very useful little book to have on the bookshelf (or indeed, in the bag should the need arise).
