What with marijuana now legal for recreational – as well as medicinal use – every third person here in Oregon seems to be opening a shop selling it in any unused retail space, garden shed, or chicken coop. Indeed, the proliferation of cannabis throughout the state is at levels never before seen (and that’s saying something in a state that contains both the city of Portland and the annual site of the Oregon Country Fair). And as Alaska, Washington, and Colorado have also made it’s use legal, I can only assume things are much the same there as well.
Thus, for those who would like to increase their understanding of this famous as well as infamous plant genus (whether for natural history or commercial purposes), the publication this month of the paperback edition of Robert Clarke’s and Mark Merlin’s 2013 book Cannabis; Evolution and Ethnobotany seems exceptionally well timed.
