Whenever a new book catalog arrives, I give it a cover-to-cover perusal to see what interesting titles the new season will bring. Such a scan of the recently arrived Texas A&M University Press catalog not only brought my attention to a number of interesting forthcoming books but also turned up a backlist title from 2013 that I somehow managed to miss: Wildlife Watching in America’s National Parks; A Seasonal Guide by Gary W. Vequist and Daniel S. Licht.
Building upon one “premiere” species and the national park with which it is most strongly associated (Plains Bison and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, American Alligator and Everglades National Park, etc.) each month, the guide goes on to point out other parks where that species may be seen, other species that might also be seen in the same areas, and explains the ecological relationship they have to one another.
