Every so often a new natural history book is published that when you first see the cover you find yourself saying “Wow! I bet that’s going to be quite an interesting book!” Such was my response upon seeing a copy of Sébastien Reeber’s new Waterfowl of North America, Europe, and Asia: An Identification Guide from Princeton University Press.
Not, mind you, that I’m going to allow myself to make the categorical mistake of judging the entire work by said cover; the quality of the work will be proven or disproven in a thorough examination of its contents. Nevertheless, I can’t deny that it makes an excellent first visual impression.
