In the world of natural history books, few things elicit more excitement than a new edition of a much-respected classic work. Thus when I opened a recently-arrived package from Mountain Press and discovered in it a freshly printed copy of Marli Miller’s Roadside Geology of Oregon, Second Edition I was rendered nearly speechless. After all, it was the 1978 first edition of David Alt and Donald Hyndman’s Roadside Geology of Oregon that launched the now twenty-eight volume strong Roadside Geology series.
As Alt and Hyndman’s first edition has long held a place of honor on my bookshelves, I can hardly wait to begin exploring this new second edition to discover what Dr. Miller has added, changed, and otherwise updated.
