The Royal Society has announced the long list of books under consideration for its 2012 Winton Prize. Named since 2011 for its present sponsor, Winton Capital Management, the prize honors the best in popular science writing originally published in English in the UK during 2011.
The 2012 Long List includes twelve titles that, alas, cut quite a wide swath around most of what would be considered within the natural history macro-category; social psychology and cosmology are instead the two dominant subject areas represented this year.
The Short List will be published on 25 September and the name of the winning book will be announced on 26 November 2012.
