In our home, the usual television fare can be best characterized as “Mayberry.” Having (and wanting) only basic cable, the programs most commonly viewed on our TV set belong to the “cooking,” “oldies,” and “public broadcasting” genres; which is why it was such a shock to sit down the other night and, when flicking the channel over to a station commonly known to broadcast science fiction movies, being faced with a graphic scene of the cannibalization of one living human being by another.
