For those who like to accompany their bird watching with a glass of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, or perhaps even a nice sparkling Cuvée Brut, the nice folks at Domaine Meriwether have just thing for you: the Fifth Annual Fern Ridge Wings & Wine Festival in Veneta, Oregon.
Timed to coincide with the International Migratory Bird Day festivities across North America, the Wings & Wine festival offers a variety of activities that take in both the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest countryside and the fine wines produced there.
There will be guided bird walks at such Oregon birding hotspots as Fern Ridge and Fisher Butte (including a specifically designated “kid-friendly” bird walk), presentations by a host of notable speakers, a tour of the Domaine Meriwether winery itself, and – for the dedicated oenophiles in attendance – a four winery tour that will visit not only Domaine Meriwether but also the Sweet Cheeks, Lavelle, and Hinman wineries as well.
Much to my regret, I will be away on a business trip at the time of this festive gathering and will therefore be unable to attend. However I encourage all with the inclination to do so to attend, watch a few birds, and tip back a glass or two in my place.
