OK, it’s not a secret – I have the chicken pox. It seems to have been caused not by simply catching it from another infected person; oh no. I have developed it ex nihilo, as it were, as a result of having received a vaccination against the very disease itself. I think the proper expletive to use in this case would be “Bugger!”

In and of itself, having to undergo an outbreak of this disease is irritating, both physically as well as psychologically, but not of any greater or longer-lasting bother. However, as things so often are, it is not limited to being “in and of itself.”

I am scheduled to attend one of my very favorite birding festivals in the near future – something I will certainly not do if my physician indicates I am contagious in the least to any other person. Fortunately, it is thought that, given the date of the vaccination and the discovery of the first symptom of the disease, I likely came down with it a over a week ago and therefor should be “pox free” and biologically harmless to others by the time I am presently scheduled to depart for the event.

Peace and good bird watching.
