After two four hour flights I arrived safely in Panama to a superb welcome by both IPAT and my hosts from Panama la Verde. We were driven directly from the airport to the Albrook Inn in the old American Canal Zone where we were offered a delicious supper, marvelous hospitality, and spacious comfortable rooms for the night.

As our arrival coincided with the return to Panama of the winner of Latin American Idol, Panama’s own Margarita Henriquez, we were treated to the broadcast of the tremendous welcoming party television broadcast being played on every TV in sight. I’ve not previously watched the U.S. version of this program but listening to the music of the Latin American edition, I might actually tune it in if it were ever broadcast in Oregon.

Needless to say, this is the tropics and even though it is now 4;00 AM (I made the mistake of thinking Panama to be on Eastern Standard Time but did not calculate in the U.S. peculiarity of daylight savings time) it is still 80 degrees F. In about an hour, my companions will arrive to join me and we will be on our way to the airport once again then on to David and Chiriqui.

Peace and good bird watching.
