Tomorrow is the beginning of an auspicious week indeed. The 126th Stated Meeting of the American Ornithologists’ Union will take place right here in Oregon not more than thirty miles from my home. Needless to say I am just a teensy bit excited.
I have attended similar meetings of the A.O.U. before, including the one in New Orleans that coincided with Tropical Storm Isadore. However the facts that it is being held in my home state, that I will not be required to venture forth on an airplane to reach it (I don’t mind flying in general, mind you; it’s just become extraordinarily unpleasant in the U.S. these past few years), and that I will be able to return from its activities each night to my home and family will make this particular meeting especially enjoyable.
My primary role at the event will be representing Wingscapes and helping to spread the message of the usefulness of the BirdCam in scientific research to those in attendance. However I will also be providing readers of Born Again Bird Watcher with “from the event” moblog posts as opportunities present themselves. It should be quite an exciting week.
Peace and good bird watching.
