We’ve seen quite a number of fledglings out testing their new wings these past few days. From stubby-tailed Song Sparrows on the ground to young Chestnut-backed Chickadees lined up along the porch railing waiting their turn to be fed by a parent busily picking nuts out of one of the feeders for just that purpose.
The juvenile chickadees are quite fun to watch as they appear to be ravenously hungry but don’t seen quite clear on what is food and what isn’t; so they try pecking at just about everything they can reach on the off chance that it might be edible. However just as with all young ones, parents must be ever vigilant as to who their little ones associate with and try to copy.
My Wingscapes BirdCam recorded this one who has apparently been watching the local hummingbirds a little too closely. The picture struck me as so funny that I uploaded it to I Can Has Cheezburger and turned it into a LOLZ:
Peace and good bird watching.
