The comments about the dark plumaged Steller’s Jay images included in the previous post, both directly on the blog as well as those sent to me via e-mail, have been most enlightening. My sincere thanks to all who have contributed answers or observations to the question.
The bird returned yesterday, giving the BirdCam the chance to record some additional images.
I remain amazed at just how much black is visible on this bird.
The dark coloration of the flight feathers is perhaps the most intriquing.
The odd positions the bird is required to assume in order to extract nuts from the feeder gives a look at some of the plumage from an angle not ordinarily observed.
