Thinking about Gastropods as I have been recently, It dawned on me that I was unaware of what term might be applied to those who engage in such studies recreationally. As those who watch birds and record their sightings on a life list are called “birders,” by extention those who watch butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera) rather than being “butterfliers” and “mothers” would be called “lepers.”
Continuing in this vein, those observing and recording dragonflies and damselflies (Odonates) would logically be denominated “odors.” Thus anyone interested in watching slugs and snails (Gastropods) would reasonalby be called “gassers.”
It is precisely these very types of thoughts that continue to keep me excluded from polite company.
Peace and good bird watching.
