For all the readers of Birds Illustrated, an introduction of Bo Beolens is entirely unnecessary. It is also unnecessary for all those who know, love, and use the Fatbirder website. Should there be anyone left after these two categories have been exhausted who is still unfamiliar with Bo, I direct them to his own autobiographical statement on the Fatbirder website for I fear I could not do justice to Bo and his vast contributions to the bird watching community that he has made over the last few decades.
Now, after years of successful writing, community building, and advocacy, Bo has entered the blogosphere with his new blog Grumpy Old Birder. The title, taken from his regular essays in Birds Illustrated, should by itself give a fairly solid indication of what Bo intends to post in his new blog. One of the best ranters writing (or perhaps writers ranting) today, when Bo’s ire is raised, his words often reflect the unspoken feelings of many who are simply too cautious to give voice to them. Bo holds no such reservations.
