Even though it was a nice, sunny day at the suet feeder, there was an uneasiness in the air.

The juncos could sense it. Something was just not right. It was as if a malevolent presence was lying just out of sight – waiting.

But try as they might, they just couldn’t find the source of the feeling. However, it was most certainly there… lurking.

Then they saw it – the tail!

It slithered down from above.

It was huge – maybe a kilogram or more.

As it curled itself around its chosen target, one thing was certain – lunch was over for the juncos.

As it was a northwest Douglas Squirrel, the message read in its expression was clear: “S’cuse me while I kiss this suet!”

Peace and good bird watching.
